Experience: The activities you'll experience in Alpha Phi Omega will develop your self-confidence and leadership abilities. These experiences—that range from planning, implementing and leading service projects or events, to dealing with people from different walks of life, to self-management workshops like time management and life balance— are extremely beneficial when looking for a job or starting a career after college. Fun: the activities and “work” in APO is exciting because you get to share them with dynamic and committed members. The ideas and input of different individuals and knowing that you’re making a difference altogether make the Alpha Phi Omega experience fun!
Connections: You will have to opportunity to meet and befriend members from all over the country. Alpha Phi Omega Philippies has chapters in almost 350 colleges and universities nationwide and a lot of our Alumni hold respectable positions in almost all sectors of Philippine society. Having the right connections will come in handy in the future!
Alpha Phi Omega is a collegiate SERVICE fraternal organization. It was established in Pennsylvania, USA in 1925, reached Philippine soil in 1950 and was organized in UP Cebu in 1979. Our purpose is to develop Leadership, promote Friendship and provide humanitarian Service. APO’s service programs are focused on four areas: Service to the Nation, Service to the Youth and Community, Service to the University and Service to the Fraternity. Our core values are based on Scouting and the Scout Law (A Scout is: trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent).
Alpha Phi Omega is AGAINST fraternity and campus violence. We do not go around looking for trouble. Unfortunately, the popular concept of the “fraternity” is almost synonymous with rumbles and disruptive behaviour because of unruly members unchecked by their respective “frats”. APO, on the other hand, cultivates its members in the ideals of an authentic college-based fraternity to be good citizens and individuals of honor, respect and humility
The Roman Empire was not built overnight. We do not believe in “one day survival” programs. Alpha Phi Omega is not your ordinary college organization that you forget about after graduation; membership means being committed for life. Commitment involves building a (fraternal) relationship and establishing trust, which doesn’t happen overnight. Aside from learning all there is to know about Alpha Phi Omega, a Pledge (neophyte) will receive personal and leadership development training and will get to know each member of the APO chapter thru one-on-one coaching or mentoring sessions. A Pledge will also need to plan and implement a number of humanitarian service projects which is a requirement for acceptance into the organization. The entire Pledge period is around 45 days.
